Much of my photography is black and white and documentary in nature, but with this work I have abandoned concrete subjects for the abstract, black and white for color, and the traditional frame for thread. I was drawn to cartoons for their color, whimsical subject matter, and also perhaps as an attempt to reconnect with my childhood. I have sewn the images into a grid referencing a quilt or blanket, as a child I had my favorite comfort blanket. At the same time, the grid is also net-like and oppressive in nature, conjuring up emotions of helplessness and entrapment. This duality is what I find most interesting.
